Champions Scintilla finish strong

SCINTILLA CRICKET CLUB finished the season in style by defeating Aztecs CC in the final game of the Essex County Cricket League Championship Division One 2022 season. 

At the London Marathon Playing Fields Aztecs won the toss and elected to bat first. The home team were bowled out for 96 after 26.1 overs. Sajal Rahman finished with four wickets with Bilal Khan taking three and Jahidul Haque Jumon with one. F Shahzad was the top scorer for Aztecs with 20.

Scintilla Captain Ishaq Shawn plundered 63 off 38 balls before falling to R. Ramaraj. It was left to fellow opener Morshadur Rahman and Adil Ejaz to fire Scintilla home.

Scintilla followed their nine wicket victory with their end of season award ceremony, where man of the match trophies were handed out to players. Adil Ejaz was named batter of the year for his exploits for both the Saturday and Sunday teams. 

Scintilla Captain Shawn was philosophical in his speech. “The season has shown the character of us as individuals. Each and every player has proved his worth but it has been our strength coming together as one which has been our greatest asset.”

Ahmed Choudhury, Club founder and Honorary President, added, “Scintilla is a club based on community foundations. We focus on engagement and success consolidates what we live for, to play and promote the very best of cricket – congratulations team.”

Chair Emdad Rahman MBE finished off the ceremony. He said, "We have played cricket the right way, with flair and charisma.  Our spirit has been immense from day one. Well done to a splendid team.”

In the ECCL hall of fame Shawn finished as top run scorer (652) and highest individual score (139).
