HACKNEY CHILDREN who are starting secondary school this September will need various supplies to support their studies. Now the School Parliament has appealed for public donations to ensure all pupils have what they need.
The Youth Parliament has drawn up a list of items which new students will need, including a rucksack, geometry set, pens and a scientific calculator. They are inviting members of the public to donate these items or to donate money for them to be bought.
As well as equipping students with items they will need, knowing that they are prepared to study will give students confident that they can cope with all the new demands that secondary school can throw at them.
The Hackney Youth Parliament statement reads:
“It is our mission to make starting secondary school as easy as possible for students moving from Year 6 into Year 7. Around 64% of children in Hackney live in low-income households, facing financial pressures when preparing for the new school year. This will be our fourth year running the Pack To School Appeal, and we’re proud of the difference this campaign has made. Thanks to the generosity of residents, we have helped hundreds of young people feel prepared, confident, and ready to learn.
As we launch this year’s appeal, we’re asking the community to help us reach even more young people across the borough and give them a positive start to secondary school.”
Take any items you wish to donate to the Forest Road Youth Hub at 29 Forest Road, E8 3BY or make your donation before 31st July.
