Pioneering woman led an inspiring life

THE DEATH has been announced of Mrs Sajida Khanom Chowdhury, who passed away on 15th April 2022 at her home in Redbridge.

Mrs Chowdhury came from Khan Manzil, Mirer Moidan, Sylhet. She was the Principal of Blue Bird School in Sylhet from 1971 to 1979. Mrs Chowdhury eventually settled in London. She was a social worker in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Disabilities Team until she retired in 2003.

Mrs Chowdhury was a true leader and pioneer. She was a role model for women of her generation and generations to come. She was the Founding Women’s Affairs Secretary with Founding Cultural Secretary of the Greater Sylhet Council in the UK and Bangladesh.

In her later years, Mrs Chowdhury lived with dementia. She will be missed by her two sons and two daughters-in-law, by her daughter and son-in-law, her ten grandchildren – and her many well-wishers. Her family ask the community to make Du’a for her magfirath.

Mrs Chowdhury’s namaze janaza will be held on Wednesday, 20th April after Zuhr namaz at the East London Masjid, East London Mosque, 82–92 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1JQ. This will be followed by a burial at Woodgrange Park Cemetery, 540 Romford Road, Manor Park, London E7 8AF.
