POLICE HAVE discovered an alleged plot to attack two mosques in South London – an attack motivated by “extreme right-wing terrorism”.
The discovery comes after police arrested a 14 year old boy at an address in South London on suspicion of causing criminal damage to a vehicle. Police officers then discovered that he was in possession of what they described as “a number of documents of concern”.
The teenager has been accused of planning to attack two places of workship in Sutton, south London. He is currently being held in custody. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday to face charges of preparation of terrorist acts and racially aggravated damage to property.
Cdr Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) London, said that they were investigating younger people these days. This case involved a “very serious terrorism charge against a young boy,” she said, which was “particularly concerning” to the Muslim community.
Police are supporting the two mosques that were threatened and the victim whose vehicle was damaged too.
