THE COLLISION took place at 9.15pm on Whalebone Lane – the A12 – in Romford. A car had collided with a motorbike.

The emergency services responded quickly. The London Ambulance Service, the Air Ambulance and the London Fire Brigade all attended. Despite their best efforts, the motorcyclist died at the scene. He was later named as Anwar Shinwari, aged 28.

The driver of the car ran away from the scene. The Metropolitan Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit led an investigation, and on 25th July a 45 year old man was arrested. He was later named as Lee Culleton, 45, of Rattwick Drive, Canvey Island.

Culleton was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified and the fraudulent use of a registration mark. He appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on 27th July. He was remanded into custody and ordered to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 25th August.
