Add your voice to an autumn of events for peace

An inspirational station was agreed at the International Anti-War Conference in June: "From this International Anti-War Conference we raise our united voices: against war and genocide, and the growing nuclear threat, and for peace."

With so much military action around the world, with war-thirsty nations attacking others, or even their own populations, it is welcome to see people standing up in opposition to this belligerence and the human suffering it causes.

The Conference also agreed agreement on a number of international days of action – and building these events has now begun. The first will be a day for Palestine, on 10th October. There will be a demonstration in London, and Palestine solidarity organisations around the UK are urged to book coaches now.

With Israel continuing to keep the population of Gaza in appalling conditions and beginning a new round of settlements in the West Bank, other countries are becoming increasingly uneasy. It is important that their governments are lobbied.

Future events include a march to Labour Party conference, starting at 12 noon on Saturday, 26th September from St George’s Plateau in Liverpool. Andy Burnham was quick to apologise for Keir Starmer’s appalling response to Israel’s attacks on Gaza, so it’s a good time to press for the Labour Government to take stronger action against the ongoing genocide.

There will also be a Weekend of Action on 20th-22nd November, which will focus on opposition to militarism and conscription, beginning with a Youth Strike on Friday, 20th November.
