Narrow squeak for residents in Mile End flat fire

FIREFIGHTERS came to the rescue of residents of a block of flats in Mile End last week when they acted quickly to put out a fire on the second floor of the six-storey block.

Firefighters came from Poplar, Millwall, Shadwell and Bethnal Green fire stations to tackle the blaze. The first report of the fire came into the control room at 7.27pm, and it was under control by 8.20pm. Part of the flat was destroyed by the fire, but there were no reports of anyone being injured.

The fire is believed to have been an accident – cause by combustible materials being left on a halogen hob.

Thanks again to the swift action of the firefighters – without whom the fire could have been so much worse.
