Hundreds of vaccines are lined up, waiting for the next arm to come along.

OVER 200,000 anti-Covid vaccinations were undertaken across the UK over the Christmas break – with Redbridge Town Hall dishing out the highest number of vaccinations of any site in the country.

In London, 54,307 vaccinations – including 3,478 first doses and 47,015 booster doses – were carried out over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The numbers helped England deliver over 214,000 doses over the same period, including 12,000 vaccinations performed on Christmas Day (10,000 of these were top-up doses) and 24,078 on Boxing Day (including 20,278 doses).

At the busy Redbridge Town Hall, 900 locals attended to receive their vaccinations and achieve, or take a step towards, the best level of protection against Covid that is currently available. Dr Seedat, GP and vaccination lead at Redbridge Town Hall, said, “I am delighted that at Redbridge Town Hall we saw the highest number of people in the country come forward for their jab over Christmas and Boxing Day, protecting themselves and their loved ones against Covid, and credit goes to the whole team, especially those working behind the scenes, who gave up their time to make London safer.”

Since the first vaccination was performed around a year ago, 110 million doses hae been delivered – including 27 million booster shots. However, there’s still plenty of vaccine left for anyone who hadn’t been for their share yet.

Dr Emily Lawson, head of the NHS COVID vaccination programme, said: “I want to say a huge thank you to all the staff and volunteers who gave up time with their families over Christmas to protect others – as these figures show it was time well spent. But if you were too busy shopping, cooking, wrapping or visiting family and friends over Christmas to get a jab please book now.

“There are 1.3 million appointments still available between now and next week so go online and arrange one. You won’t need to queue, and it is the best way to protect yourself, your family and your friends from Covid. We know that two jabs do not provide the protection you need from Omicron so if you are eligible book a booster without delay.”
